How Does Kitting Work in Our Warehouse Management System (WMS)?
When cooking, oftentimes we defer to recipes, whether passed down through generations or from a search on the internet. There are specific amounts of ingredients you need to get the taste that you want. That is how kits work in our Warehouse Inventory Management Software. The “recipe” is the information of inventory items needed to make a set of kit, including the location within your warehouse as well as the quantity needed.
The best part of our system is that we’ve designed it to be powerful and versatile, capable of handling different kinds of kits depending on the type of warehouse inventory your business has. This includes serialized, batched, or quantity-based inventory.
How to Set Up Kits in Our WMS
1To start, you or a designated WMS administrator enables the kitting function. This is located within the System Configuration Menu. Once that is done, you can create “recipes” and combine items together to form a new composite inventory item.
2 Our system also lets you specify other items to substitute components of the composite inventory item.
What does the WMS Create Kits Feature Look Like?
1Our WMS Create Kits feature can add up the costs of the inventory items required to make the composite item and give you the cost of the finished product. One thing of note is that composite items can only be made using existing warehouse inventory item data. This means the finished product can only be kitted with items that have been entered into the software.
Creating a Kit in Your Warehouse with Our WMS
When creating the kit, users will need to select which assembly they are looking to make, the location of the kit, and the quantity that will be made. Based on this information, users can also enter identifying information including ID numbers, expiration dates, costs, and other notes if necessary. Users also could select substitute items if needed.
